Roy Gould elected the youngest Indian Chief

Roy Gould, Elected the youngest Indian Chief at age 21, resigns as Chief of the 250 residents of the Membertou Indian Reserve, Sydney.

The resignation submitted to Mr. H.S. MacNeil, stated that Mr. Gould’s resignation is effective June 31, 1971. The youngest Chief felt that he could not devote the time required in order to run an efficient office for the people of Membertou. He expressed thanks to the Indian Affairs Department and the people of Membertou for the kind co-operation extended to him and the Council.

Chief Gould held the position as Chief for the past three years. He was re-elected Chief June 1970 for the second term. The Bi-Elections for Membertou are scheduled to be held July 14th, 1971.
